• Estimated presentation length

The meeting task force will review all submissions and notify presenters of decisions by October 9.
 
As part of the event, attendees will vote for their favorite presentation. The recipient of the coveted Audience Choice Award will receive a prize.

We will enjoy a presentation and tour of the Denver Art Museum (DAM). Please note there are optional activities beyond 1 pm.
 
Best parking option for all events is the Cultural Arts garage (enter on 12th Ave; 4 hrs = $8, 6 hrs = $12). Steet parking may also be available around the art museum.
 
As we are not allowed to bring in outside food or drink into the art museum, we will have an optional coffee networking meeting (self-pay) at 9 am at the Rendezvous Cafe in the History Colorado Museum (1200 N Broadway, Denver, CO 80203). The cafe is a short walk from the Cultural Arts parking garage.
 
For the formal program, please meet at 10:00 a.m. at the entrance of the Martin Building (the castle-looking building) on 13th between Broadway and Bannock (we will meet at the star).

Philosophy in Medicine: More than Ethics
This talk will explore the broader role of philosophy in medical practice beyond traditional ethics. It will cover an overview of philosophy and its relationship to science, followed by a discussion of evidence-based medicine (EBM) and why it is necessary but not sufficient for clinical decision-making. The session also addresses questions about race in medicine—whether it exists in nature and if it can be scientifically tested—and explores the limitations and challenges of artificial intelligence in healthcare, including the debate over whether AI could ever achieve consciousness.

Seeing Style, Shaping Dialogue: Using Extended DISC to Communicate More Effectively
Librarians work across diverse roles, expectations, and communication styles every day. This 45-minute workshop informally introduces Extended DISC as a practical tool for recognizing communication preferences and responding more effectively in real-world settings. Participants will explore how DISC styles show up in email, meetings, virtual spaces, and in-person interactions, and learn simple strategies, grounded in Crucial Conversations skills, for adjusting communication when clarity, trust, or collaboration matter most. No prior knowledge of DISC is required. While Zoom access will be available, online participation will be watch-only since the facilitator cannot offer virtual feedback.

The Evolving Role of Wikipedia in Academia and Healthcare: From Skepticism to Scholarly Engagement
Dr. Mike Pascoe, Associate Professor within the Physical Therapy & Physician Assistant Programs at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

The presentation will explore how Wikipedia's perception has shifted from initial skepticism due to concerns about "open editing" and lack of formal peer review to its current recognition as a valuable starting point for background research. Dr. Pascoe will detail the evolution of Wikipedia's authorship models, improved editorial oversight, community guidelines, and enhanced citation requirements, highlighting its unique role as "an amazing source for consumer health information". The discussion will also cover Wikipedia's vital function in information preservation and its efforts to combat medical misinformation, particularly in response to concerns among researchers and healthcare professionals regarding data removal from federal websites. Crucially, for an audience mostly comprised of librarians on a faculty promotion track, the presentation will offer a behind-the-scenes look at contributing to Wikipedia, including insights into the contribution process, editorial oversight, and how such work can be integrated into scholarly output. Opportunities for publishing and scholarship through Wikipedia, such as "edit-a-thons," will also be discussed. CCML members will gain a comprehensive understanding of Wikipedia's transformation into a reliable resource and a legitimate platform for scholarly engagement and public information dissemination.
