Hannah Pollard

Why did you choose to become a librarian?

My family moved around a lot, and so for my final year of high school, I had to be put in whatever classes were available – and one of those available classes was assisting in the high school library. I got a lot of first hand experience as to what it was like to work in a library, and chose to pursue it.

Where did you attend college?

I have my undergraduate degree from University of North Carolina at Asheville and my graduate degree is from Florida State University.

What is your hometown?

We’ve lived in a lot of places but I’d say I’m from Pecos, New Mexico – it’s a small town about thirty minutes outside of Santa Fe.

What is your favorite book?

It’s technically a collection of short stories, but the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Much like Shakespeare, people seem to hold the original Sherlock Holmes stories as some sort of serious text when most of the time, they’re quite funny and silly.

What is your favorite feature in your library/favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is getting to speak with students, faculty and staff. Having one on one consultations or getting to speak to a class is a really rewarding experience, and I love helping them think critically about medical literature.

What are your hobbies outside your job?

I love video games, particularly horror games or games that focus on stories or characters.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I’m a high soprano. I’ve done choir and theater for most of my life. I suppose I have a high pitched voice, though, so maybe that’s not that hidden…
